David’s Ocarinas

Below are photos of a few of my creations.  All are five hole English style ocarinas which play nine notes.  Each is handmade from red earthenware clay.  After the first or bisque firing they are tuned and decorated with oxides and commercial underglazes and fired a second time. Then a clear or textured glaze is applied and they are fired for a third time.  I generally work in batches of 60 to 80 pieces and it takes about three months to complete a batch.  To date I have made between 2000 and 3000 ocarinas.
